Blackbird Writing Collective
Cynthia Bond
New York Times Best Selling Author, Cynthia Bond, founded the Blackbird Writing Collective in 2011. Her debut novel RUBY was remarkably chosen to be an Oprah Book Club 2.0 Selection. A PEN Emerging Voices Fellow, Bond has taught writing to homeless and at-risk youth throughout Los Angeles for over 20 years. She is on staff at Paradigm Malibu youth treatment facility. Cynthia is currently writing the Screenplay for RUBY and completing the next two novels in the RUBY Trilogy. She lives in Los Angeles with her 10-year-old daughter.

Judea is a writer, producer and actress. She has written and produced for film, documentary, and TV. Her pilot, "Wake Up With Susie" was a semi-finalist in the national Exposurama screenplay competition. Judea recently completed her cutting-edge debut novel, THE THING SHE DIDN'T KNOW, currently in manuscript. She has also started a blog entitled, “This is what’s happening now…and then” a non-fiction personal memoir written in journal form.
Margaret Medina is a native of Los Angeles. She performed her one-woman show, "Margarita on the Rocks" at the HBO Workspace and Casa 0101, and won best solo-show from Playreviews.com. Her acclaimed play, A Force to be Reckoned With was produced by Josefina Lopez at CASA0101. As a professional actress, Margaret has performed in film, stage and television. She holds a Bachelor of Theatre Arts from Cal State University Northridge, and received a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Goddard College. Margaret believes in giving gold stars, and is not a bad little dancer!  

Aisha-Aku Jenkins

Aisha-Aku Jenkins is a screenwriter, playwright, performance artist and novelist. Mentored by poet June Jordon, Aisha-Aku is currently adapting her screenplay, Seflove into a novel. She has had her writing for the stage produced by Brava! For Women in the Arts, among others.  The recent production of her play, Taken, was nominated for a Kennedy Center Theater award. Aisha-Aku also created critically acclaimed dance theater pieces that received an award of commendation from the Governor of California and grants from the California Arts Council, Creative Work Fund, San Francisco Foundation and many others.  She received her B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from University of California, Riverside. ​She lives in Los Angeles with her 10-year-old intelligent daughter.
Franki is a singer/songwriter and jewelry maker/designer. Her line, Banshee Style is seen in artisan boutiques in Los Angeles.  Her songs have appeared in film and commercial projects, including the David Fincher film Fight Club. Her poetry began a transition into prose after joining the Blackbird Writing Collective. Franki lives in Los Angeles with her two sons.
